At a glance

The Wharton Technology Club at the University of Pennsylvania is one of the largest and most active professional clubs on UPenn’s campus, and it seeks to provide education and opportunities to its members. After all, tech is the second largest industry at Wharton, and is the fastest growing industry sector for post-graduation employment.

In 2023, The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania ranked #1 for best business schools in the United States.

Club mission

The mission of the Wharton Tech Club is to educate its 600+ members on the latest technology trends, innovations and disruptions; increase the number and quality of networking and recruiting opportunities with technology companies; and strengthen the Wharton brand in technology and technology-dependent industries.

The Tech Club provides educational and professional resources to its members while fostering a strong community of individuals who are passionate about technology through treks, social events, recruiting workshops, lunch & learns, and industry newsletters.

PM-related programs for student club members

Wharton Tech Club provides the following programs for students interested in product management (as well as tech more broadly):

  1. Tech Tuesday lunch & learn sessions

  2. Mock interviews and resume reviews

  3. Interview preparation workshops

  4. Tech Treks with prospective employers

Wharton Tech Club’s “Tech Tuesdays” are educational lunch & learn sessions on a variety of topics, where they invite speakers from within and outside Wharton to share their knowledge on a specific tech topic. Past topics include "Pitching Yourself to Startups," "E-Commerce Insights," and "Uber's Expansion Strategy in Asia."

The club also hosts career-focused events. It provides mock interviews and resume reviews for its members, as well as interview preparation workshops.

As an example, in 2022 and 2023, Wharton Tech Club partnered with Product Teacher to deliver a product management interview workshop for members, where they covered the most common question types that candidates are asked during their PM interviews.

In this session, members learned frameworks for breaking down interview questions, reviewed the rubrics that hiring managers use to assess responses, and assessed both “good response” and “bad response” roleplaying based on real-world candidate interviews.

Furthermore, the Tech Club organizes multiple treks throughout the year to bring students closer to employers, alumni, and leaders in the tech industry. They host three treks each year: Big Tech Trek in December, SF Startup Trek in February, and NY Startup Trek in March.
